1.9.0 for High Sierra timeline?

Postby leeb » Thu May 02, 2019 5:10 am

Wondering about this more compared to previous betas that were on the newest OS because my heaviest ZFS use cases remain on the various Mac Pro 2010s we've got, but 10.13 was end of the line for them for seamless official support. It's possible to get Mojave on officially via buying new video cards and giving up on FileVault, but the latter isn't possible and sinking more money into them at this point isn't desirable anyway. If stable release is going to take a while it'd be great if we could get a beta release for 10.13 to kick the tires on a bit as well, particularly eager for the raw fixes and seeing if encrypted fs can be backed up normally again. Thanks!

Usually - we do the RC on the latest macOS until we are happy, then we do the full release. Which will be 10.8 - 10.14 this time. 1.9.0 is most likely the last release for 10.8 - 10.10 though.

I can build a 10.13 pkg especially as well, but at the moment I have 2 known issues we should either track down, or rollback.

Thanks for the reply, and I understand you normally only RCing with the latest. This time around though it's just a bit of an unusual situation is all, I don't know how the O3X user base breaks down but it doesn't seem impossible there are a certain number of Mac Pro users compared to the average, being the only models with PCIe, bays and ECC which all motivate taking more advantage of ZFS. Hopefully WWDC at last brings some relief on the hardware front, but in the meanwhile 10.13 it is. If it ends up looking like RC will be a while beyond hunting those 2 issues down a 10.13 pkg would definitely be appreciated if you have the time. Thanks as always for the work!

I notice that there appears to be a download link for 10.12 (Sierra) in the announcement posting regarding 1.9.0 RC 3 - I'm curious about that... is that actually a Sierra binary, or is it a High Sierra binary in response to this thread? If it is High Sierra I can test it on my spare machine (which will never run Mojave, sigh).

Thanks,

Kurt

Ah because someone asked for it? Did you need a specific version to test?

If it’s not too much trouble to prepare, I would test the High Sierra 10.13 version of 1.9.0 RC3. Thank you for considering it.

Just if anyone else sees this, looks like RC builds for 10.13 and 10.12 are both now up in the News release post, thank you so much lundman! Looking forward to trying out both later this week.
