Hey welshexpect,
Since OpenZFS is the only non-default kext, have you tried uninstalling or updating it to the latest version?

Basically, every time I shut down or reboot the computer, it states it rebooted due to a crash and does not restore the state of the applications that were running. This has been happening for at least a year and a half, on three separate computers.
The only kexts installed on two of those systems, aside from Apple's default ones, are openzfs. Until recently, it wasn't a major concern because I only restarted when macOS upgrades were installed, but I've been traveling more and need to shut down. I don't usually have any Zfs pools imported (I just switch on the array and import it when I need it), and it doesn't matter if I did so for the current boot or not, so it's just the kext loaded.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? What's the best technique to figure out why macOS believes the computer crashed?
