File based zpool not discovered

I am using a zpool based on a single file as vdev for compressing, encrypting and backing up my documents on MacOS and am unable to add a new ssd partition.
It works quite well, however, I am unable to import the pool after a reboot even with -d option (and either specifying the file directly or the parent folder) because the pool is not found. The only way I found so far is using a cachefile. Any ideas how to get the import working without the cachefile?
