Is upgrading to macOS Monterey with zfs-2.1.0 safe?

Postby minimons » Thu Nov 04, 2021 5:32 am

Hello!

Will OpenZFS hate me for upgrading macOS from Big Sur --> Monterey while having OpenZFS-2.1.0 installed?
My Mac has one of those M1 CPUs if that is of any importance here.

Best regards,

Worked for me. No M1, just Intel here.

I have an M1 pro that shipped with Monterey. I installed zfs 2.1.0 for Big Sur arm. I'm having an issue with Photos that I've just started looking at. I will post about that to try to get help.

Basically, my Photos library opens but I'm unable to import photos. Not sure why yet. Look for the new post coming soon with the specifics.

I do not have the same issue with 2.1.0 on Big Sur / Intel.

I have an M1 iMac that came with Big Sur, now running Monterey 12.0.1 and ZFS 2.1.0 [arm, Big Sur]

Have had a few issues (Zetawatch not working properly, inducing a slowdown, and generally a bit slower than I would like, which seems to be primarily encryption related) but I am running my existing 16 TB pool (4 8TB drives, mirrored pairs) without any showstoppers at this stage. Set up a simple shell script to mount encrypted datasets on launch, which I have to say works very well with a Touch ID empowered sudo command

Have also used the pool on my M1 MacBook Air, but only for testing purposes, again without significant issue. It is running the same Monterey and ZFS versions.
