ZVOL appears as external time machine backup not possible

Postby mike0810 » Thu Oct 14, 2021 3:48 am

I created a zvol and formatted it as APFS. In Time machine, It appears in the excluded Items list but it is greyed out so can not be removed from the list.

The zvol is registered as external disk.

My zpool is located in an external owc thunderbolt 8x enclosure.

I use zfs 2.1 on mac mini M1.

I'm not much use on zvols, I'm afraid, but I do wonder what the setting for the com.apple.mimic= property is on the pool you have created, or the filesystem in which the zvol resides?
You can set that property to apfs post pool creation, and it might be worth experimenting with that.
