Hi, I made a post about this last year: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=3487, but it didn't get any traction. I just now came back to this, trying again with a different Mac and the latest zfs-2.0.0-rc2 pkg for Catalina and Im still getting the same problem. Following messages repeat 6-7 times:

rootvnode is not set
spa.c:8304:spa_async_request(): spa=z async request task=1

then:

Still waiting for root device
<kernel panic>

Follwing this doc:https://openzfsonosx.org/wiki/ZFS_on_Boot

Any ideas what is going wrong?

If you are trying boot, please stay with 1.9.4 - the 2.0 work is new and I've never tried boot myself, so no idea if it works.

Thanks for the info. From my previous post, I did try the 1.9.4 version first and had the same issue. Could It be encryption? Im pretty sure the first time I tried I didn't use encryption. But this time I am using an encrypted zpool.
