Can import or destroy Pool

Postby Xochikubrick » Tue Jul 21, 2020 7:20 pm

Hi there,

After going thru an extensive dive int o the world of ZFS I managed to get my RAIDZ system working with Mac, Linux and windows, but yesterday affecter going from windows to Mac I got an error that I haven't been able to recover from, currently when trying to import (in any OS) I first get this error:
internal error: Malformed Mach-o file
zsh: abort sudo zpool import -f Zraid

I tried to do a scrub but I get a "cannot open 'Zraid': no such pool" and also tried to do a pool import -F but the it comes back with "Try import -f"....

"sperezrleon@iMac-Pro ~ % sudo zpool import -F
pool: Zraid
id: 13303296019711705317
state: FAULTED
status: The pool metadata is corrupted.
action: The pool cannot be imported due to damaged devices or data.
The pool may be active on another system, but can be imported using
the '-f' flag.
see: http://zfsonlinux.org/msg/ZFS-8000-72
config:

Zraid FAULTED corrupted data
raidz1-0 FAULTED corrupted data
PCI0@0-BXBR@1,2-BYUP@0-pci-bridge@A-pci1022,7901@0-PRT0@0-PMP@0-@0:1 ONLINE

I don't have critical data so destroying would be an issue, but as this is learning thing for me I want to know what would be the proper steps, because I tried the destroy command, but got a "cannot open 'Zraid': no such pool" again... so no sure what to do here....

Any help is more than appreciated!

Looks like hardware/cable issues.

I did thought of that, but sadly no, it does seem like one drive was stocked, but after formatting with Disk utility it responded, so guessing something els was keeping it busy....

Strange, it happened to me only once and it was a hardware issue as well. Did you manage to solve it in another way?

AFAIK: internal error: Malformed Mach-o file

is error 88, which we use for checksum-error. So it was unable to read the pool as the checksums failed. Could be data was overwritten, or other IO issues.
Biggest concern is that something went wrong with Windows, which corrupted it, and you failed to import it. Did anything suspicious happen on Windows?
