Can HFS+ formatted ZVOL be backed up by Time Machine?

I have a Raidz1 of three SSD disks with a ZVOL on it that I have formatted as HFS+.
I would like this HFS+ formatted volume to be backed up by Time Machine. To be clear, I do not need TM to use this disk to store backups.
I assumed it would be as it is "simply an HFS+ volume" to the system... doesn't seem quite that simple after all?

Any ideas on how to go about this?
I don't mind destroying the pool or anything, just want to get to a point where I have the automatic Time Machine backups working for the volume.

Or do I need to make a sparsebundle on the ZFS pool?
Would that be backed up by Time Machine?

I’m not knowledgeable enough to help with that, but I wonder what it is you’ve tried to get the TM backup working, what you’ve expected to happen, and what actually happened?

I assume that your HFS+ volume is mounted, and that it shows up in Finder.
Does the TM preference pane show your volume as an eligible volume for backup? Or are you already past that?

Please disregard my comment. I didn’t realize there’s already a new thread.
