Slow spotlight searches on zfs volumes

Postby jojo45 » Wed May 03, 2017 1:55 pm

I am finding that Spotlight searching is very slow on zfs volumes.

I have tried modifying the io throttle by setting:
Code: Select all
sysctl -w debug.lowpri_throttle_enabled=0

But this has no effect.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Spotlight searches on non-zfs volumes are instantaneous.

I was able to figure it out.

Tuning the ARC memory usage restored a speedy search.

Per the WIKI: https://openzfsonosx.org/wiki/Memory_utilization

Setting the kstat.zfs.darwin.tunable.zfs_arc_max tunable to use less RAM and rebooting took care of it.

Hi,

What version of the software are you running?

Can you provide more details on your RAM capacity, utilisation etc and continue to monitor?

Cheers
