ZFS on encrypted volume: Conversion Progress stuck at 0%

Postby aaronk6 » Fri Oct 07, 2016 4:40 am

Hey there,

I’ve created a ZFS mirror on two encrypted Core Storage volumes (8 TB each), based on the instructions from https://openzfsonosx.org/wiki/Encryption.

Everything went well except from the fact that the conversion (= encryption?) process seems to be stuck:

Code: Select all
diskutil coreStorage list | grep Conversion
|       Conversion Status:       Converting (forward)
|           Conversion Progress:   0%
        Conversion Status:       Converting (forward)
            Conversion Progress:   0%

This hasn’t changed for a few hours. I have already rebooted the machine (which prompted me for the passphrase for unlocking the discs) but the conversion progress remains at 0%.

Should I be worried? Or will new data that gets written to the volume be encrypted anyway?

I’m aware that this issue might not be related to ZFS. However, I’m hoping to get some people’s attention who have also created Core Storage volumes on large disks to see if this behavior is expected or not.

I’m on macOS 10.12.

Thanks,
Aaron

I guess I judged too quickly: Apparently it just takes very long. It’s now at 1% after ~2.5 hours. Sorry for the noise
