Memory leak, 1.5.2?

Postby echeng » Thu Aug 25, 2016 9:26 am

Hi, everyone. I'm running OpenZFS 1.5.2 on OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 (15G31) on a Mac Pro, and have a very large zraid1 consisting of 4 x 8TB drives in a Thunderbolt enclosure. Everything is working well, but there is likely a memory leak that is forcing me to reboot every few days. Basically, if I mount the volume, memory usage starts to go up, and after a few days, a system process is at around 50GB.

I'm running OpenZFS 1.5.2 on a second Mac Pro that does not have this problem (zraid2, 8 x 6TB drives connected by Thunderbolt).

Has anyone else had this issue? Can I help figure out whether this is, indeed, an OpenZFS bug?

First, I'm no ZFS guru... but since I just saw this and nobody answered yet..
Do you have a lot of memory in your machine?
If so, I think ZFS can use a LOT after some time.

You can limit memory usage:

Super grateful to the people developing OpenZFS on OS X!
RaidZ2 working well for storing my data, OS X Server share for Time Machine, FCPX, iTunes, Photos, etc. on my Hackinstosh.

I'm also experiencing memory issues. Memory is not getting returned when the system is under pressure.

Yes 1.5.2 is a bit of a hog, and we have fixes in the pipeline, looking for the correct sacrificial item for a build to happen.
