OpenZFS on OS X

Called APFS.
The description does not sound (added much) like ZFS.

The description sounds exactly like the parts of ZFS that Apple probably finds most appealing, but without spanning multiple devices (though who knows what they might be planning to add to CoreStorage) and without other aspects of ZFS's model that don't really fit well with most of what Apple does. The one major thing it's lacking, it seems to me, is any data integrity protection/detection... I'm hoping they have something like that in the final version, though who knows.

It's certainly not really in a usable state now: on-disk format subject to change, not bootable, case-insensitive only, not Time Machine-backup-able... but it'll be interesting to see what becomes of it.

i had a look and i certainly welcome a replacement to HFS+ for boot drives, with a more robust integrity system. it would be a killer feature to allow integrity checks and replacement from time machine.

An open source implementation is not available at this time. Apple plans to document and publish the APFS volume format when Apple File System is released in 2017.

I thought it was being released in with 10.12 (Sierra). This suggests 10.13... ?

Still not bootable yet either...

I am just hoping that whatever progress has been made solving issue 116 that it doenst get shot in the ass .. but my guess is a totaly new file system is probably a whole new bad of issues to integrate ZFS into the operating system yet again..

My guess is that it's going to be 11.0. This new file system is certainly a major enough change to warrant it, and they've recently dropped the "OS X" moniker, freeing them from having to hang onto the "10" any longer. Also, this would bring the Mac and iOS version numbers in sync, which would provide them a nice incentive as well.

Apple must be desperate for some good filesystem news this far ahead of release, especially if this is not going to be deployed until later next year and not probably until macOS ? (equivalent to 11).
I remember back in the day when they were going to replace HFS+ with zfs and it all suddenly petered out over the rights issue, so I'm not holding my breathe for a bootable APFS yet,

I'm betting it will be bootable pretty soon. They have some amazing programmers.

On the other hand, I'm betting that it will remain less reliable than ZFS, and that it will never be cross-platform.
