iTunes in 10.11.3 struggling to write

Hi,

I have a 10 disk raidz2 pool on 10.11.3 which was recently upgraded to 1.4.5

It seems to work fine, but iTunes is struggling. I keep the library files on an SSD in my home folder, but iTunes is directed to the media on the ZFS volume. This worked fine before, but upgrading to 10.11.3 and 1.4.5 seems to have broken it. Basically it is very slow at writing. When I try to import an album, iTunes will fail and say "The required file cannot be found" or somesuch.

When writing a large file, speed can be 150MB a second or faster, but that is hardly scientific.

Any ideas?

Edit:

This seems to be the bug: https://github.com/openzfsonosx/zfs/issues/394 as I see plenty of "27/01/2016 8:54:00.356 PM iTunes[20740]: Possible unresolved transaction race -105"

Thanks for the quick response!

i exported my pool, installed and upgraded and restarted.

I do not see the console error about transaction race now, but iTunes is not accepting to add files to the library. I still have this error after some time: Image

Code: Select all
sysctl -a | grep kext_version
spl.kext_version: 1.5.0-3_g12a3476
zfs.kext_version: 1.5.0-27_gaf351b2

Are you sure you have write access

Also, you should probably come on IRC to troubleshoot interactively

Hey, I was on IRC all day yesterday but received no response.

As mentioned on IRC, I definitely have write permission. When first approaching this problem I made the library and media folder 777 and iTunes will copy some files, though very slowly, but it is not consistent.

Something that may be related, is that emptying trash is incredibly slow. I have several Applications folders that I am deleting they add about to about 90,000 files. It will literally take a month at the current rate.

Here are what shows up on console for zfs and spl: spl ZFS

Not all messages will have ZFS: or SPL:. Also lundman is on IRC now if you want to poke your head in.

Hey, how did this turn out in the end? Were you able to make itunes work with openzfs?

PS>I get extremely long copy times with itunes folders, whether I am backing up to a regular hfs external drive or to another zfs raid or to a tape its very slow due to all the tiny metadata files. I have found it faster to zip the files first, move the zip and then unzip. All of that took about half the time of a straight copy.
