Heap of kernel panics - zfs-macOS-2.2.3rc5

Postby benjamin » Wed Jan 29, 2025 2:38 pm

Yesterday I had so many kernel panics on an Intel i7 running Sequioa 15.2 with zfs-macOS-2.2.3rc5 that it was panicking before I was able to view problem message. The ones I was able to read referenced apfs again.

The panics stopped when I disconnected the enclosures for my zfs array. I noticed that 2.2.3 'proper' had been released. So installed that, connected things back up and it seems happy and stable again. I left a disk speed test running overnight and *touches a lot of wood* no issues so far.

All rather circumstantial and nothing to say it was definitely zfs-macOS-2.2.3rc5 but may help someone with a similar issue.

Kind regards,

Benjamin

do any of your zfs datasets have mimic designations of `apfs`?

Seems I do! I don't recall ever setting this....

Code: Select all
% zfs get com.apple.mimic
NAME                                     PROPERTY         VALUE                SOURCE
EXTERNAL                                 com.apple.mimic  apfs                 local

And now I see all the other posts relating to 'com.apple.mimic=apfs' and kernel panics in apfs. Although much better behaved with v2.2.3, I'm going to turn this off for now.

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Benjamin
