Big Sur Build

Obviously it's early going, with the new Xcode and OS build just seeded yesterday, but has anybody tried to build/run OpenZFS on Big Sur (on Intel, obviously) yet? (I'll try it myself if I can, but I have the chicken and egg problem of not being able to upgrade my main machine until I can mount my ZFS filesystems... :) )

Well, it's the OS and the apps surprisingly stable, at least compared to the state macOS us usually in when a developer-only beta is released.

It's pretty much usable, aside from the third party things that don't run...

If you have a Mac with T2 chip: first enable full OS boot security, otherwise the install may not work, you can disable it afterwards again.

Progress on Big Sur is in this ticket:
https://github.com/openzfsonosx/openzfs/issues/8

We can load the kext on intel, with missing functions, which we need to solve or we will be missing features.

I've not yet managed to make it load on DTK.

Evening all ...

Is there any update on the Big Sur work? I'm about to order a new Mac Mini ( my current is from '12 ) and will be getting a new USB-C based RAID enclosure and drives. I won't be a huge hurry to move my old array to the new box ( the old Mac Mini still works, I'm using it now, its just, well, old ), so will be able to test new builds if needed ...

The other option, of course, is to try and downgrade the OS on the new hardware to Catalina, but I always hate going backwards in terms of tech ...

Thanks for all of the great work ...

Intel BigSur I believe we'll be able to do without much issue - but ARM64 is being quite awkward.

Wow, does that mean you have one of the ARM64 Mac Mini machines for development?!

I have a DTK as well, and would love to test when you have something worth testing...

It'd be great to see a more up-to-date Intel package for Big Sur - is there a newer build than the one from July?

I can confirm that The BigSur 2.0rc5 build 3 still panics my 2019 iMac 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5.
