Testing openzfs-2.1.x

Postby lundman » Tue Feb 15, 2022 1:53 am

Previous versions was macOS rebased with upstream.
This version is upstream+macOS PR, so it is latest upstream and the future.

If anyone wants to test it out, there is a .pkg installer for Catalina (and newer versions).

For example, the sysctl is completely new, all tunables are finally available.

It should contain assembler/crypto fix, NFS fix etc. Please report issues
so we can move towards the next release. The xattr/xcode problem is known.

OK this is the real openzfs-2.1.x, with the speedups and stack checks.

Also, I suspect the last real release has a kext unload panic, which is why some of you have this issue.

We could update the installer for the next real installer, to avoid it (by forcing a reboot instead).

Here is a test build with a couple of fixes:

* timed out waiting for child callback
* _zfs_findernotify_callback

I did a bunch of debugging on my M1, endless reboots, but I think we managed to fix the openzfs init problem on arm64 / M1 macs.

Can people give it a go if it's not too much trouble.

Remember, if you do end up in a boot-loop, or boot-hang, you can
hold power button to enter Recovery, and run "kmutil trigger-panic-medic" to
remove openzfs again. Google for precise details.

Ah OK, so that build is for ventura.

I need to build earlier, which would require doing it in VM since my M1 is already on ventura. It'll just
take a little longer.

OK it was a challenge to get Monterey compile done, but here it is. It is running on
my M1 - but not tried on M1U and M2.
