Time to create pool?

Postby LOWiQ » Thu Dec 12, 2019 10:50 am

Absolutely newbie here... Just attempting to make my first pool. I've done:

sudo zpool create -f -o ashift=12 -O atime=off -O compression=lz4 -O casesensitivity=insensitive -O normalization=formD tank mirror disk2 disk3

And it just sits there. How long should this take? 2x 8TB. Are we talking like two full formats or more of a quick format type speed? Thanks!

Also... Is that the best way to go? I'm going to ultimately have 4x 8TB. 2 vdevs of 2x 8TB mirrored. I assume compression is the way to go as most have said there shouldn't be a significant performance loss.

Okay that was weird. Wrote a bunch of 0s to the disks for a while and then tried the command. Instantly worked. Away we go! Thanks!
